Painting Philosophy
The majority of my work reflects my interest in landscape. Although the imagery is largely derived from an archetypal landscape partly inspired by 19th Century painters, the aim of my work is to make paintings that are contemporary.
The work investigates my interest in the area between dream and reality. An abstraction of theme rather than form. To suggest thoughts and ideas to the viewer.
Ideas for paintings are based on the landscape, various literary forms, memory, travel as well as the making of art. Pictorial concerns such as the balance of construction, surface and narrative also inform the work.
